If I had to learn a high-income skill which one would I pick?
Admittedly, I might be a bit biased. I’ve been making a living building websites for almost 10 years now.
I’ve learned so many things along the way, which is exactly why I would do it this way, all over again.
Here are 4 reasons why I think web design is a great high-income skill to learn:
1. You can learn (and do) it all by yourself
Building a website might be daunting at first, but I promise it isn’t hard at all. There are plenty of great resources (paid and free) available online, to help you get started.
All you need is a laptop and a working internet connection and you’re good to go.
2. Code, or No-Code, that is the question
You can either go the “classic” route and learn HTML, CSS, and JS. Or you can start without having to write a single line of code.
I would recommend the latter if you want to start offering your services quickly.
(You can always learn more about coding later on.)
There are great tools that make it even easier to get started. I would recommend one of these two:
- WordPress: The CMS I’ve been using for years
- Webflow: A no-code website builder
3. Expand your skillset (and your offer) as you go
Here are just a few examples of skills you could add to your services as you go:
- SEO
- Coding
- Writing
- Photography
- Graphic Design
- Email marketing
- …
4. You can offer your services right away
The moment you’re able to build a website you already have your first offer. If you can sell 3 websites at 2k per month you’re able to replace a regular 9 to 5 income.
With time and practice (and more demand for your services) you will be able to increase your rates. Before you know it, you can sell a website for 4k, 6k, 10k, or even more.
As with every new skill, you learn fastest from somebody a few steps ahead of you (a mentor).
