30 Posts In 30 Days – Day 24: Guessing

This is Day 24 of the 30 Posts In 30 Days Challenge I set for myself to start writing online. This post was originally published on X.

Nobody knows what they’re doing.

At best, they’re making well-informed decisions based on their own experience. But even then, there is no guarantee or hard evidence for anything.

Nothing is ever for sure.

It’s easy to look at other people, thinking they’ve figured it all out.

The sibling who always seems to know where to go and what to do.
The stranger on the internet you heard about, making millions “earning with his mind”.
The friend who transformed his hobby into a business and is now doing what he loves for a living.

But most likely they’re stumbling through life, dealing with their own problems.

And like you and me, they’re figuring it out as they go.

They’re all guessing.

What may look effortless from the outside, is likely the result of years of practice.

What may seem like an overnight success, is probably one of a thousand failed attempts.

What may feel like a failure now, might as well be the last step before the final breakthrough.

In our attempt to control the randomness of life, we forget that everything we do is a best guess.

So what should we do then?

Well, as unsatisfying as the answer may be, I think our only option is to keep guessing.

How could we possibly know, let alone control, the exact outcome of our own actions?

We can’t.

And the more we attempt to do so, the harder we’ll make life for ourselves.

But what we can do is to keep trying and take as many guesses, in as many different directions as possible.

And at some point, something interesting might reveal itself.
