30 Posts In 30 Days – Day 15: Time
This is Day 15 of the 30 Posts In 30 Days Challenge I set for myself to start writing online. This post was originally published on X.
Managing my time is just as important to me as knowing the ins and outs of my finances.
Time is money, after all.
And every once in a while, I’m trying to revisit my process for how I manage my time.
Here are the three things I’m trying to solve right now:
1. A place for everything
I want a place to write down everything that comes to mind during my day.
This doesn’t just involve tasks but also notes on projects, random thoughts, and ideas.
Because I know I can’t rely on my brainpower to remember them later on.
2. A system to organize information
Once I have all the information in one place I want to be able to process it.
Right now I’m thinking about a way to make this a part of my wrap-up routine, at the end of my work day.
This could be as simple as going through each point on my list of things and
- creating a new task,
- moving it to another place,
- or getting rid of what’s unimportant.
The goal here is to know exactly where I have to look for information on a specific thing.
I don’t want to search through emails, text messages, or paper notes.
3. A way to focus on one thing
Right now I’m using my calendar, adding a block for every single thing I do in a day.
This also includes non-work related things, such as breaks, hobbies, exercise, and private appointments.
This helps me get a better feeling for the time available to me in one day and I always know what to do next.
Some people are able to “just wing it” or think “planning equals procrastination”.
I know this isn’t true for me.
Without having a clear next step, I easily fall into the procrastination trap.
But with a good plan in place, I feel clear, in control, and less distracted.
